Reviving a Bakersfield Landmark: Our Work with CityServe

Our team at BMI Mechanical is driven by partnerships with purpose—and our collaboration with CityServe in Bakersfield, California is a perfect example. When CityServe received the gift of a former department store and shopping mall to serve as their new headquarters, they had the space and vision to do something powerful. What they needed was a mechanical partner to help them unlock its full potential.

Starting with Discovery

When we first stepped into the building, it was clear the mechanical systems had been untouched for decades. Before we could talk upgrades, we needed to understand what we were working with. That first year was all about assessment—investigating the state of the equipment, diagnosing issues, getting systems operational again and laying the groundwork for a preventive maintenance plan built on real data and insight.

A Phased Approach for Long-Term Performance

Rather than a one-time fix, we developed a multi-year strategy that made sense for CityServe’s needs and budget. That included restoring functionality and recommending improvements to make the building more efficient, reliable and comfortable for the people working and gathering inside.

Controls that Empower Efficiency

One of the biggest upgrades came from modernizing the control systems. With better controls, CityServe can now manage their building more intelligently. This means pulling in cool outdoor air, shutting off unused zones and reducing overall energy consumption. It’s a sustainable solution that saves money and increases comfort—all aligned with CityServe’s mission of stewardship and service.

Built on Purpose

At BMI Mechanical, we love to help breathe new life into buildings. Our work with CityServe is more than a service call; it’s a partnership designed for impact, growth and long-term success.
